Rents continue to climb in Seattle, a mark of a healthy local economy, limited housing inventory and a desirable climate. This is good news for landlords; not so good news for tenants. Construction of new residential units is up and coming available in a steady stream. Will it be enough to satisfy the demand?

Items Accepted: desktop and laptop computers, monitors, cell phones, iPods, keyboards, mice, power cables, scanners, copiers, and TVs under 42".
Not Accepted: DVD Players, VCRs, microwaves, stereo equipment, kitchen or other appliances, TVs over 42", styrofoam or cardboard.

Seems like there's an app for just about anything, necessary or not. But this seems like a truly useful one! At least for those of us in Seattle who're looking for an easy way to communicate needed repairs and issues to the City. I've loaded it and plan to use it soon.

Several people mentioned this article to me over the last few days, so I thought I'd look it up because it didn't sound right. So, while statistically accurate, this local headline is a little misleading. With a quick glance, many local readers will think their home is worth what it was in 2007!
But here's why that's not the case: the median sales figures quoted are specific for the month of July (2014 vs. 2013). Historically, summer is a little slower in terms of local real estate sales/inventory and July 2013 probably fit that mold better whereas July 2014 experienced unusually brisk sales. So I think we can say it's a bit of an anomaly.
I like "Year to Date" figures because they smooth out the monthly spikes and provide a more accurate picture of how prices are performing one year compared to the next. I also prefer median values rather than average values.
For instance, the 2014 Year-to-Date (Jan-July) median sale price for Seattle single-family-homes is $490,000. For that same time period in 2013, it was $454,000. Still, a nice increase but a more modest 8%.
So we're not quite back to 2007, but making steady gains.
